Diana spoke with Greenland Prime Minister, Kuupik Kleist, on his recent visit to Brussels.
Diana Wallis, who as Vice President of the European Parliament has responsibility for Arctic matters and who has visited Greenland several times, said:
"I am delighted to see the firm yet conciliatory tone of the Prime Minister's speech he made in Brussels during his visit. I was particularly impressed by his case that the EU needs to be involved to understand the Arctic and that Greenland supports the EU's application for observer status of the Arctic Council to help make that happen.
"The European Parliament is looking forward to hosting the Nordic Council conference in the spring of 2010 which is a follow up to the 'Common Concern for the Arctic' meeting hosted in Ilulissat in September 2008. I would expect full participation from Greenland in that follow up meeting."
